ELEVATING CULINARY EXPERIENCES WITH WOODEN KITCHENWARE

OBJECTIVE

At the time the client approached us, they were a well-established trading company that imported custom-made wooden kitchenware and other items, for sale in India. Through our collaboration, our intent was to create a chic brand that would complement their products and popularise the use of wooden kitchenware in India.

What started off as an alliance to develop the branding and packaging for a line of high-quality wooden kitchenware for NaturallYours, gradually expanded into developing a website, and creating a digital presence for the brand. The cherry on the icing was an exclusive range of woodenware for appetizers we designed, called The Tapas Collection by NaturallYours.

TARGET AUDIENCE

While the HORECA industry was the primary target for the brand, this eventually spread out to also include individual urban shoppers. The latter comprised of upwardly-mobile men and women who sought to serve their culinary fare in style.

SOLUTION

With NaturallYours, we sought to provide an elevated culinary experience to both professional chefs and home chefs. 


Wood has an innate quality of warmth, comfort and nostalgia, which we showcased through our varied communication, while also focusing on its tactility on account of its fine grains and textures. 


  • BRANDING AND IDENTITY SYSTEM 


We created a lucid and sharp logo identity for NaturallYours, to be reminiscent of a tree and its branches, emerging from the Y. Using green and teal, we brought forth the ‘environmentally clean’ virtue of the brand. The logo also served as a decorative element that was used across the packaging and also engraved into the products. This brand language later also manifested itself through myriad graphics at various exhibitions that the brand participated in. 


  • PACKAGING 


The first round of packaging we designed, was for a range of acacia and faux acajen woodenware that included serveware – platters trays and bowls and chopping boards. We created sleeves for each of the products and embellished these with the ‘tree’ from the logo. For the Tapas Collection, we carried forward the same design language of the tree, only this time much bolder, set against the brand colours on the box. We used an illustrative style on the top of the box to depict the product inside, complemented by a descriptor line of the contents inside. On used one of the sides of the box, to talk about the attributes of the product. 


  • PRODUCT DESIGN


Designing the Tapas Collection was the highlight of our association with NaturallYours. Our design stemmed from the premise that most serveware used at parties along with drinks is unwieldy and restricts guests from moving and interacting freely. Ideally, serveware should be a conversation starter and conversations themselves, fluid and free-flowing like rivers


Our design solution to this predicament was the Floating Islands, a 6-piece buffet-style set for tapas and appetisers, comprising a Platter, Dip Bowl and 4 Small Plates. Floating Islands is inspired by the elements found in a river, like the rocks and pebbles that are firmly anchored in it and the dried leaves that float gracefully, as the river drifts rhythmically on. The Platter and Dip Bowl are just like rocks and pebbles - solid and they remain stationary atop the table, even as the Small Plates, styled like leaves, gently glide along through the gathering.


We also created two more designs - the Fishin’ Boat, the Smart Fold. The Fishin’ Boat was inspired from the British staple, fish & chips and was so named owing to its clean and linear look, reminiscent of the anatomy of a fish. We designed this as a serving platter that accommodates condiments alongside.
