MOBILE FOR NYATI
The challenge? How to create an installation that would inspire a sense of calm in the beholder? The answer drew inspiration from nature more specially a Bamboo grove and the beatific work of Alexander Calder. Bamboo, since ancient times, has been associated with tranquillity, a symbol of good luck and fortune. Alexander Calder is credited with the origin of the mobile, kinetic sculptures that move in response to touch or air currents.
For the installation, we decided not to use actual bamboo but to re-create its feel using modern materials, analogous to those used in construction today. Our team brought together metal pipes, acrylic discs and little pieces of turned wood to created a hanging installation that perfectly captures the essence of Bamboo.
Suspended from the ceiling, the delicately balanced installation rotates in response to the slightest of air currents and every now and then, the ephemeral reflection from the acrylic and metallic discs is cast upon the walls, leaving the spectator with a sense of clam and awe.
Nyati Group, leading real estate developers based out of Pune, wanted a suspended work of art to be installed in their nature-inspired corporate office. They didn’t just want a static installation but something that reflected change and emanated peace and tranquillity as well.
