The Indian Design Council (IDC), alongwith CII and NID entrusted us with the prestigious task of conceptualizing the Design Pavilion the Make in India exhibition, Mumbai in February 2016. The core objective was to illustrate the role that design can play for the Make in India endeavour to be a grand success.
Curating the content for the show, we divided the space into five main sections, viz; the process of design, the value of design, design showcase, design in handicraft in and design workshops.
Inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi, and attended by many stalwarts like Naushad Forbes, Amitabh Kant and Pradumnya Vyas it was a platform to bring the role of design in manufacturing to the forefront.
The Design Walk, was the central feature of the pavilion, with interactive floor game conceptualized to illustrate the design process. Inspired from the classical game of snakes and ladders, the core message we wanted to convey was that design is a non-linear iterative process where one needs to go back and forth just like in the game where snakes bring you back a few steps and ladders push you forward.
The Design Walk had a series of panels with bite sized information on the role of design and its capability to adapt for intervention at different levels in an organisation.
